Kurt Metzger had a bit of difficulty today and almost injured himself on Joe Rogan’s podcast while performing an amazing feat of mental gymnastics. While defending Amy Schumer from allegations of stealing material from other comics, the Comedy Cellar regular launched into an angry tirade against what he perceived to be an organized campaign of harassment. The hotheaded comedian reportedly was a last minute addition to an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience that was originally scheduled to feature guest Owen Benjamin. Metzger was head writer for Schumer’s “Inside Amy Schumer”, the controversial sketch comedy show that was swamped by allegations of plagiarism. Fans went so far as to upload videos to YouTube and other social media sites playing comparison clips and implying that Schumer and her team of writers stole various premises and punchlines from other sketch comedy shows, such as Fox’s Mad TV. In addition, Schumer has been accused in the past of plagiarism of comedians like Wendy Liebman, Kathleen Madigan, Tammy Pescatelli, and the late Patrice O’Neal.
After her show was canceled, Schumer weathered the controversy. Her film “Trainwreck” was a success but it seems to have been all downhill since then. A recent Netflix special was received poorly and given so many 1 star reviews that Schumer herself came out to blame “Alt Right trolls” for trying to destroy her. How did Netflix respond? By eliminating the review system altogether! Now tons of smaller productions and artists have less of a chance to have their work scene if they get higher ratings from fans. Now Kurt Metzger is selling that line of bullshit, too. Despite being called out for his bullshit by Rogan, he goes on to blame Gavin McInnis and declare that everyone who thinks Amy Schumer stinks is an “Alt Right troll”. Because Kurt can’t admit that they may have borrowed a premise from Mad TV. At one point he even snidely declares “who even watched Mad TV!?!” Well…I hate to break it to you, Kurt. But a lot more people watched Mad TV for many more years than “Inside Amy Schumer”. And on a network. But don’t tell this to Kurt on Twitter, because he refuses to stoop to the level of you mere civilians. Kurt is losing his mind. I think all of years of abusing “energy drinks” is getting to him.
