$115k Reward For Austin Bombing Suspect

The Austin Bombings continue. Sunday Night’s scary scene in Austin, TX. Police have not yet determined a suspect.

Another explosion has rocked the city of Austin, TX injuring two people. The incident happened around 8:30pm Sunday night in a small suburb in the southwestern part of the city and brings the active total to 4 bombings in 3 weeks. Police have not yet stated whether or not this explosion is connected to the previous package bombings that rocked Texas’ capital last week but they are investigating a bag that may have been left at the scene of the explosion. According to a tweet by Austin-Travis County EMS, 2 men in their 20’s had non-life threatening injuries. The Austin Police Department is urging locals to be cautious of suspicious or unattended packages, underscoring the tension among residents of this normally peaceful city. The panic was felt more so during the beginning of tonight’s incident with early reports of two explosions, however those reports were corrected later. Throughout the bombings, Austin’s famous SWSX festival, which ended this weekend, continued seemingly unaffected despite the attacks.

Law enforcement response was swift and overwhelming, according to multiple sources on the scene. Local & State police, along with the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies have swarmed on the scene and are investigating. This latest explosion happened across town from the prior bombings, which killed 2 and injured 2 others and while there is no official word as to whether this bombing is connected to the previous attacks, it’s likely that authorities are looking into that possibility as a main theory. The first was a package bomb that exploded at a northeast Austin home on March 2, killing a 39-year-old man. Two more package bombs then exploded farther south on March 12, killing a 17-year-old, wounding his mother and injuring a 75-year-old woman. Police said all three of those were likely related and involved packages that had not been mailed or delivered by private carrier but left overnight on doorsteps.  Police still have no suspects.

According to Austin’s local CBS affiliate, a nearby school will be delaying classes two hours on Monday morning to allow for a complete security sweep of the campus due to the school’s proximity to the explosion investigation. APD Chief Brian Manley has advised local residents within a half mile radius to stay inside. The entire neighborhood has been shut down until daylight, according to Manley as they investigate a second suspicious package identified as a backpack.

Austin Police Department have raised the reward to $115,000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrator of these attacks. Anyone with information is urged to come forward as soon as possible.
